Damn I Love Coffee: The Drug

Let’s get real – a big part (if not the biggest) of why we love coffee is the drug.

It’s the reason why you have to have your coffee every morning.

According to Wikipedia, caffeine is the world’s most widely consumed psychoactive drug.

Although we love coffee for the taste and the ritual, we drink coffee for the drug.

Thank goodness we have such a tasty and varied delivery system. There are as many variations on coffee drinking as there are coffee drinkers. We all have our preferences: flavor, quantity, style, origin, temperature, and on and on and on…

If I, for whatever reason, can’t make my coffee or make it to my favorite coffee shop (yes, I own a coffee business but still enjoy the occasional coffee shop brew), I’ll still find a way to get a cup of coffee. Even if that involves stopping at a gas station or some other mass chain of coffee shops, I will do it. I need the drug.

I love the feeling a hot cup of coffee gives me. It wakes me up; it increases my focus; it is a great mood lifter; and it is fun to drink.

Some days we need a little larger dose of the oh so wonderful “world’s most popular psychoactive drug.”

Like right now. It’s early on a Monday morning as I am writing this, and I’m getting really excited about my second cup. (And my second cup will be made the same way as my first – slow and drawn out.)

I know there are a lot of decaf drinkers out there. Part of me thinks you might be a little crazy for cutting out one of the best parts, but I get it. There is a time and a place for everything. For me, caffeine after a certain time of day causes sleep to desert me. So if I’m out on a hot date with Lady Rebel Pine, and we decide to have an after-dinner cup of coffee, I go for decaf. (Right now, you might be thinking, is this guy 70!? Who does that!? I do. And I’m 30. Sometimes you have to test out a nice restaurant’s coffee to truly see how good of a restaurant they really are.)

Coffee has a lot of caffeine. Caffeine is a happy drug. Coffee makes me and you happy. Coffee is an inherently a good thing.

Now get up from your computer, or put down your phone, and go drink a nice cup of coffee and let the drugs into your brain!!!
